I miss the rattle Moonlit shadows in the dark Pale white fingers reaching out and Tearing at my heart I miss the knocking From that old closet full of bones Piled up like an alter to every lover that I've known They've all gone away, and I think they've gone to stay I miss their letters In that pine box under my bed Every time I read those words I could raise the dead I miss their company Oh such sweet misery I thought this time they could not hurt me This time they could never... Leave, leave me alone But now you are here and they've all gone So why am I missing ghosts? I miss the wicked one Who had me wrapped in chains I miss the kind one I was so desperate to escape I miss the cool one She barely spoke to me I miss the hot one Who knew just how to make me scream I miss the lonely songs That they used to sing Dressed up in their long black veils Calling out my name I miss the tragedy Oh such sweet fantasy I thought this time they could not hurt me This time they could never Leave me, leave me alone But now you're here and they've all gone You are for real but for how long? For I fear, you won't hang around And I'll still be missing ghosts

I dreamed I woke beside you, ten years after high school You had just moved back to town We had made amends, once again, we were more than friends Laying tangled like our clothes upon the ground And it was finally clear, what I'd been missing all those years Lay sleeping there between my arms But when I turned to kiss your face, I found that you had been replaced By my pillow and the sound of my alarm Because the morning always lets me down Yeah the morning always lets me down The morning always lets me down Yeah the morning always lets me down Ten o'clock each night, when all my neighbors dim their lights That's when I reinvent my master plan I break out all my lists and maps and old vacation photographs Try and get my world to spin around again And with every passing drink, I grow more confident and think Maybe tomorrow I could really make a change But when the daylight spills into my house and I'm still passed out on the couch I know tomorrow will have to wait another day Because the morning always lets me down Yeah the morning always lets me down The morning always lets me down Yeah the morning always lets me down I once lived in the light of day But I lost my heart so I pulled the shade I'd love to wake now but I’m afraid The sunrise is just another empty promise waiting to break Because the morning always lets me down Yeah the morning always lets me down The morning always lets me down Yeah the morning always lets me down Every night I pray, my dreams might see the light of day, but the morning always lets me down

Corn fields on either side and White lines, to the horizon Nebraska with a broken heart Now that’s a lonesome state to drive in And the sky is as black now as my, coffee is cold It’s two in the morning and I’ve got a long way to go but those Red light on the radio tower Flashing slowly for the tired and the lonely Red lights on the radio tower Like a long lost city skyline I wonder if I will find my way back home Rear view as clear as hindsight Its just a dark empty road that I’ve left behind me Lost and alone I reach out for my stereo Is there anybody else out here tonight But then through the static I hear a sad old country song And my homesick heart it just starts beating right along with those Red light on the radio tower Flashing slowly for the tired and the lonely Red lights on the radio tower Like an old familiar skyline, won’t you help me to find my way back home

Fawn 02:30
Fawn, out in the woods alone Hair of honey brown, like the leaves on the ground Gone, she never hangs around Every time that I get near, she high tails out of here She's had enough of those other bucks They've gone and left her blue If she, gave me a chance to change her luck There is nothing that I wouldn't do Oh my dear it is true, I am fawning over you Fawn, winter is coming on You can see it in the moon, snow will be falling soon Strong, you could make it on your own But I reckon it would be, a little easier with me You act so tough but I'll call your bluff I know what you've been through Give me a chance to change your luck There is nothing I wouldn't do Oh my dear it is true, I am fawning over you Yes my dear it is true I am fawning over you

Holding Out 03:01
Mistakes, I try to learn from mine But you were one I made time after time I had faith that you would come around But you would only come to let me down I should have known, the writing was written Across my empty bedroom walls The telephone, it had stopped ringing You were not returning my calls You were holding back, when we were together Now I've come to see That you were holding out for something better When you were holding on to me You were afraid, of being left alone So you kept me waiting in vein for so long I’m ashamed, that I even let you in When you were just here waiting for him I should have seen, you look right past me Every time he came around I can't believe, that you were just acting I really wish I would have known You were holding back, when we were together Now its plain to see That you were holding out for something better When you were holding on to me You were holding out for something better When you were holding on to me

Blackout 02:59
Blackout, lightning strike The windows are dark in the city tonight The TV is off and that's so nice We'll carry on by candlelight Clap of thunder, blinding light The walls around us drop out of sight The rain and the wind are pouring in The cats are under the couch again The roads are flooded, there are no streetlights I guess we won't be going anywhere tonight So strike up a match and let's burn some wax We've got a jug of red wine and all night to relax singing Blackout, lightning strike The windows are dark in the city tonight The TV is off and that's so nice We'll carry on by candlelight Its just angels bowling up in heaven, so I was told On lanes of silver with pins of gold And when they start rolling and knocking them down The thunder and the lightning crash to the ground As a child I'd run out with bare feet To dance on the banks of the river in the streets Now when the storms roll in they still make me grin And when the lights go out I feel so, young again, singing Blackout, lightning strike The windows are dark in the city tonight The TV is off and that's so nice We'll carry on by candlelight The clocks are now blinking, the power has returned But let's leave the lights off and watch the candle burn We can can tell stories of storms that have come and gone And we can make music and we can sing songs like Blackout, lightning strike The windows are dark in the city tonight The TV is off and that's so nice We'll carry on by candlelight

So good to see you, thanks for dropping by For the great conversation and great rest of the night Blame it on the dim lights or that bottle of wine But it was just like old times You always were the one that knew me the best Those spot lights in your eyes always force me to confess So I'll tell you now my life has not worked out as planned But last night you know I didn't give a damn It doesn't matter, where we have been I'm sure we both looked better, in our younger skin And I know we will never, ever feel the same But we can help each other, get back in the game We always help each other, get back in the game I've got the kids on the weekend and two jobs in between My world looks nothing like the one on my TV Sometimes I feel like I've let everybody down But I never feel that way when you're around I know you have had your share of rotten luck It's hard to move on with your life when you don't know you're stuck You finally left him and I know you'll find love again But know you'll always have a place to stay 'till then And it doesn't matter, where we have been I know we both looked better, in our younger skin And I know it will never, ever be the same But we can help each other, get back in the game We always help each other, get back in the game I know someday we'll have to role the dice again We're never gonna get lucky if we never ante in But I'm so glad you laid your hand down, onto mine last night You know I’ll play again with you babe, anytime It doesn't matter, where we have been I'm sure we both looked better, in our younger skin And I know we will never, ever feel the same But we can help each other, get back in the game We always help each other, get back in the game
